Prepare payroll activities of the district. Assist in the development and implementation of payroll procedures to ensure timely processing of payroll and the applicable payment of all benefits and payroll deductions. Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Job Summary:
Payroll Ensure accuracy of payroll data input and calculations prior to check disbursement. Process payment of all liabilities generated through payroll, including taxes, Teacher Retirement System (TRS) deposits, insurance, etc. Execute payroll rollover according to contract dates. Create yearly payroll schedule. Process and resolve direct deposit and other banking interactions. Review employee timesheets for accuracy and any irregularities. Records and Reports Prepare and submit payroll reports and forms including those required by Internal Revenue Service, Texas Retirement System, Federal Insurance Contributors' Act (FICA) and Medicare. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records. Payroll Accounting Prepare accurate district payroll for distribution to employees following established procedures. Receive and audit time sheets for all district employees. Calculate employee wages, salaries, hours worked, overtime pay, and determine withholdings, deductions, and net pay. Balance payroll earnings and deductions; initiate related transfers of funds and deposits. Maintain district payroll registers, employee payroll information, and other original documentation in an orderly and accurate manner in accordance with state, federal, and district requirements. Data Entry Prepare and post all payroll changes including payroll deductions, salary changes, termination, and new employee information. Records and Reports Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required including maintaining payroll and related files such as payroll records, absent-from-duty reports, and service records. Prepare and submit payroll reports and forms including those required by Internal Revenue Service, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Retirement System, Federal Insurance Contributors' Act (FICA), Medicare, Texas New Hire Reporting, and Workers' Compensation Commission. Other Work cooperatively with human resource department, principals, department heads, campus and department secretaries, and employees to ensure accuracy of information reported. Resolve payroll problems and inquiries. Respond to requests from financial institutions regarding verification of employment. Maintain confidentiality of information. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Answer and respond to incoming calls, take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff when appropriate. Receive, sort, and respond to mail and other documents on a timely basis Assist employees with the equitable resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems in the area of payroll. Assist Chief Financial Officer in complying with all local, state, and federal regulations and policies related to payroll. Maintain confidentiality. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and exemplifies the SMSD behaviors. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED required Bachelor's degree in business-related field preferred TASBO certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements relating to payroll issues and reports Knowledge of basic accounting procedures Effective communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency skills in keyboarding and file maintenance Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and perform word processing Ability to work with numbers in accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines TxEIS or RSCCC experience preferred Bilingual preferred

Experience:
