Overview:
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of complex, technical clerical duties as needed to expedite the day-to-day maintenance and processing of time records, payroll, benefit programs and related information. Works under the supervision of the Human Resources Director.
Essential Job Functions:
Processes payroll sheets; inputs and records employee work hours; files time sheets; prepares payroll; determines employee earnings, calculates employee withholdings (ie., state taxes, federal taxes, social security, retirement, and insurance); processes payroll checks; maintains year-to-date records of wages, deductions, taxes and benefits. Maintains computerized payroll records showing employee pay rates, withholding allowances, benefit deductions, and other authorized payroll withholdings. Maintains record of work time, sick leave, annual leave and comp time accrual and usage; prepares and distributes leave record reports. Makes federal withholding tax deposits; reconciles and generates checks for payroll deductions/benefits with various private, state and federal agencies; creates correcting general ledger entries for payroll, benefit and withholdings. Responds to employment questionnaires and surveys; completes or responds to employment verification requests from various lending institutions, local agencies or other organizations; processes and follows-up on wage garnishments and levies by federal, state, and county court orders. Prepares and processes various local, state, and federal reports as required; prepares monthly or quarterly financial reports and payments related to payroll including federal taxes, state taxes, unemployment compensation, retirement, etc. Maintains employee employment records and files; assures proper documentation related to applications, evaluations, letters, enrollment documents, W-4's, I-9's, and related materials. Receives and processes workers compensation claims; assures proper notification of state agencies and insurance carriers; prepares OSHA accident reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of general bookkeeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of computer software used to complete assigned tasks. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, department heads, and the public. Skill in following complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures. Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer, including word processing software, spreadsheet software, payroll software, and email; calculator; copy machine and phone. Ability to maintain and handle confidential information. Ability to work under pressure and be multi-task oriented.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND experience equivalent to one (1) year basic bookkeeping or accounting work; completion of a post high school training program in a closely related area may substitute for the required experience. Knowledge of payroll software preferred. Must have a valid Utah Driver's License. Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, a driving record check, and pre-employment drug test.
