Job Description Payroll Specialist Position Summar yThe Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurate, end-to-end payroll processing across diverse employee groups. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while managing payroll data, tax filings, garnishments, and deductions. The position partners closely with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to support payroll operations, resolve issues, and maintain data integrity in a complex, multi-state environment . Process regular and off-cycle payrolls for salaried, hourly, union, and multi-state employ ee s
Audit and validate payroll data including time records, earnings, deductions, taxes, and accru al s
Ensure compliance with payroll laws, company policies, and union agreeme nt s
Manage payroll adjustments such as retro pay, bonuses, corrections, and final payche ck s
Administer garnishments and other statutory deductions, ensuring timely and accurate remitta nc e
Maintain employee payroll records, including pay changes, tax updates, and employment status chan ge s
Partner with HR to support onboarding, terminations, and leave-related payroll activit ie s
Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, tax issues, and system-related conce rn s
Support payroll tax filings, audits, reconciliations, and year-end proces se s
Assist with payroll-related journal entries and funding requireme nt s
Provide guidance and training to HR and administrative staff on payroll processes and timekeep in g
Contribute to system upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiati ve s

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experie nc e)
3+ years of end-to-end payroll processing experi en ce
Experience in multi-state, union, or complex payroll environments prefe rr ed
Experience with cloud-based payroll systems (e.g., UKG Pro, Workday, ADP) prefe rred Skills & Know le dge
Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage and hour compl ia nce
Knowledge of payroll systems, timekeeping processes, and internal con tr ols
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel Core Compet en cies
Exceptional attention to detail and ac cu racy
Strong analytical and problem-solving sk ills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced envir on ment
