Job Description

The Business Office Financial Counselor is a multi-faceted full time position (weekends and evenings) and requires a high level of customer service. This position interfaces directly with clients to determine ability to pay. You will verify insurance coverage and applicable benefits for all patients who are admitted to the facility. Meet with patients while in-house to discuss benefits, explain financial obligations and options available, and collect any applicable deductibles, copays, or coinsurance due; track all receivables daily. Obtain the necessary paperwork requirements (insurance cards, registration forms, No Surprises Act, etc) in accordance with hospital policy. Performs routine contact with insurance carriers regarding insurance verification and benefits. Must have a general understanding of how insurance rates affect patient responsibility. Answer all questions from patients regarding benefits and balance due. Performs various other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
A Certificate or Degree in accounting or business administration is preferred. At least two years of experience in a medical office or facility is highly desirable Minimum of high school diploma Excellent computer skills (Excel proficiency is a MUST)
SKILLS:
Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to prioritize tasks Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Solid understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, & Commercial insurances Ability to quickly learn various computer-based programs/systems An independent self-starter with time management skills Knowledge of insurance processing requirements (claims, verifications, terms, etc) Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills are essential Comfortable talking to people from all walks of life
