Job Summary This posting will be used to fill multiple vacancies. The Pension Counselor position exists to perform professional retirement services including computing the pension plan estimates, and costs to purchase service, for all eight defined benefit and one defined contribution pension plans administered by the Minnesota State Retirement system (MSRS). The incumbent will provide high-level counseling, both in-person and on the telephone, to participants regarding their MSRS pension plan(s), Health Care Savings Plan (HCSP), Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan (MNDCP) and the Hennepin County Supplemental Retirement (SRHC). Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Three (3) years•of professional experience administering financial or retirement benefits to customers which includes customer coaching, legal interpretation, and guidance on plans and policies. •A Bachelor's degree can substitute for 1 year of experience, OR a related Associate's degree can substitute for 6 months of experience. Years of experience and education must demonstrate the following: Mathematical skills sufficient to produce and audit complex calculations, and to provide analysis on complex computation errors Ability to interpret and translate laws, rules, regulations, and policies Ability to maintain the confidentiality of data and information in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act Advanced verbal and written communication sufficient to give individual and group presentations, counsel participants and beneficiaries on retirement issues over the phone, in person, or in writing, and to prepare comprehensive reports and documents. Possess, or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, FINRA Series 6 and 63 licenses Possess, or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire, Minnesota Life, Accident and Health insurance licenses Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Social Security, group insurance, and state and federal income tax as they related to refund, retirement, disability, and survivor benefits. Experience working for a public pension fund or private financial services institution. Possess FINRA Series 6 and 63 licenses, Minnesota Life, Accident, and Health insurance licenses.
