Summary:
About the Role As a Financial Counselor, you'll play an important role in helping patients understand and navigate the financial side of their care. You'll serve as a trusted resource, guiding patients through insurance coverage, costs, and available support so they can focus on what matters most — their health. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, detail-oriented, and confident explaining complex information in a clear and supportive way. The starting annual salary is $53,413 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package. What You'll Do In this role, you will: Counsel patients on insurance coverage, benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and payment options Help patients apply for Medicaid or other coverage through the New York State Marketplace Review accounts and resolve complex billing or insurance issues, including coordination of benefits Support insurance verification and authorization processes Provide cost estimates for self-pay patients and collect required deposits Meet with patients in person or over the phone across a variety of care settings Collaborate with teams across the organization, including Patient Access, Billing, Social Work, and Clinical staff Serve as a key point of contact for patient financial questions and concerns Provide guidance, training, and support to Financial Clearance Representatives and Payment Services team members What You'll Bring We're looking for someone who combines strong customer service skills with a solid understanding of healthcare billing and insurance. Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Financial Clearance Representative II:
1. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in authorization and follow-up procedures or related field; or 2. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience Financial Clearance and/or Patient Access within the Financial Clearance Department at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Financial Clearance Representative III:
1. Associate's degree and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in authorization and follow-up procedures or related fields; or 2. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time experience in authorization and follow-up procedures or related fields; or 3. High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience in Financial Clearance and/or Patient Access within the Financial Clearance Department at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
