Non-Exempt Job Summary The Oncology Financial Navigator supports PATHS' mission by assisting oncology patients and their families in securing appropriate health coverage, identifying financial assistance resources, and reducing financial barriers to treatment. This role is primarily based at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA , and works directly with patients in a healthcare setting to provide education, insurance guidance, and advocacy support while ensuring accurate documentation, compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations, and improved patient access to care. Founded in 2000, PATHS offers a broad range of accounts receivable management, patient advocacy, and consultation services to assist the needs of our healthcare clients. Our four offices in PA, NJ, and DE are home to over 400 employees and serve more than 100 clients. Healthcare providers we service include hospitals, physician groups, rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, emergency departments, medical transport, home health, and behavioral health. CAREXST partners with PATHS to deliver specialized financial navigation services, supporting oncology patients who may be at risk for financial toxicity during treatment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist oncology patients in identifying and applying for Medical Assistance, financial assistance programs, and other available resources. Provide education to patients and families regarding insurance coverage, benefits, and potential out-of-pocket costs related to treatment. Assess patient needs and identify opportunities to reduce financial burden and improve access to care. Work directly with patients in a hospital or clinical setting to obtain required financial and insurance information. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with PATHS policies and HIPAA requirements. Collaborate with healthcare providers, case managers, and support staff to ensure continuity of patient care and financial planning. Meet productivity and documentation standards as required by the program. Complete all required initial PATHS training (HIPAA, compliance, security, client protocols, role-specific workflows) within onboarding timelines. Participate in required ongoing training and demonstrate ability to apply new knowledge in daily work. Perform other related duties as assigned. •
Requirements:
Required Skills & Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with ability to interact with diverse patient populations in sensitive healthcare environments. Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information (HIPAA compliance required). Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet productivity and documentation standards. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); experience with EMR systems preferred. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced oncology or hospital setting. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education preferred. Experience in a healthcare facility, insurance billing, Medicaid eligibility, patient advocacy, or social services preferred. Oncology experience or financial counseling experience preferred but not required. Physical & Environmental Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent movement within hospital or clinical environments. Regular interaction with patients and healthcare staff. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license for training purposes. Training will take place in the Allentown, PA office for approximately 3-4 weeks (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; mileage reimbursement provided). Compensation & Benefits Compensation :
