Job Description

Financial Advisor/Private Wealth Manager New Haven, CT (Onsite) Overview Our client, an independent, fee-based RIA in New Haven, is hiring a Financial Advisor to own client relationships, deliver comprehensive financial plans, and drive new business development as the firm enters its next phase of growth. This is a newly created seat, not a backfill. It exists because the founder has built a $600 million practice serving just 125 client households and is ready to scale, and he needs an experienced advisor who can both serve clients at a high level and help the firm grow. That ratio of assets to clients is unusual in this industry and it tells you everything about how this firm operates. The relationships are deep, the planning is rigorous, and the standards are high. You will not be churning through a volume book. You will be doing the kind of work that got you into this profession in the first place. The founder is hands-on, direct, and deeply invested in how clients are served. The people who thrive here share a deep care for clients, welcome transparent feedback, and stay focused on the bigger picture. You bring your experience and your ideas. You also bring the maturity to learn how things work before trying to change them. Compensation is a base salary of $100,000 to $120,000, depending on experience, plus a 25% performance bonus while you are building your book. Once you are managing $300,000 in revenue, the bonus converts to 10% of ongoing revenue with no cap. Bring in a new client through a referral and you earn 20% of first-year revenue. If you are also the one who closes that client, you earn an additional 20% of first-year revenue. The math gets very real, very fast for someone willing to bet on themselves. You will not start from zero. Existing client relationships will be introduced and transitioned to you opportunistically over time. But the real opportunity, and the real expectation, is that you will also be driving new business development. The firm has infrastructure in place including client events, referral partnerships with accounting firms, a Yale seminar series, and monthly networking commitments, and wants a thought partner who brings fresh ideas and the initiative to execute them. Business development is not the founder's core strength. It could be yours. The path forward is clear. The firm's five-year vision is to double the business, and the expectation is that this hire plays a central role in making that happen. This role requires full-time onsite presence in the New Haven office. It is not a fit for candidates seeking remote or hybrid work, a large established firm where they can coast, or a purely service-oriented role with no growth expectations. The culture is process-driven, high-accountability, and direct. Responsibilities Own client relationships and deliver comprehensive financial plans; lead client meetings and present plans independently as both first and second chair; drive new business development through prospecting, networking events, community engagement, and referral partnerships; serve as a thought partner on growth strategy and bring fresh ideas to the firm's business development playbook; execute client transitions opportunistically as relationships move from the founder's book; adhere to established firm processes and standards while contributing ideas for continuous improvement; participate in structured team-based business development activities including lunch-and-learns, seminars, and accounting firm partnerships; and maintain all required industry licenses. Ideal Candidate Traits Experienced in financial planning and direct client advisory work; energized by both serving clients and building new business; resilient and comfortable receiving feedback; adaptable to established processes with the maturity to learn the system before proposing changes; autonomous and self-directed yet collaborative and team-oriented; a natural networker and community builder who enjoys getting the firm's name out there; and motivated by long-term growth, uncapped upside, and the chance to help shape the trajectory of an already successful firm. Required Licenses and Certifications CFP designation preferred; candidates actively pursuing CFP with a clear timeline will be considered. Series 65 required, or ability to obtain within the first four months of employment. Qualifications 3 to 10 years of financial planning experience, including direct client-facing work building plans, presenting to clients, and managing ongoing relationships. Experience in or genuine desire to transition into fully fee-based, independent financial planning. A demonstrated track record of business development, networking, or community engagement, not just servicing existing accounts. Advisors currently in broker-dealer networks who want to make the leap to independent, fee-based planning are strongly encouraged to apply. Compensation and Benefits $100,000 to $120,000 base salary depending on experience. 25% performance bonus converting to 10% of ongoing revenue (uncapped) at $300,000 revenue threshold. 20% of first-year revenue on client referrals, plus an additional 20% if you close the client. This role is being recruited by Forgent, an AI-powered talent platform built for producer-led financial services firms. All conversations are confidential.
