Job Description

Job Summary :
Were seeking a strategic, detail-oriented Financial Strategist to lead the financial direction and oversee accounting operations for a portfolio of 10-12 nonprofit clients. In this client-facing role, youll pair high-level financial analysis and advising with hands-on oversight of bookkeeping - delivering clarity, actionable insights, and dependable support to every organization you serve.

In addition to client work, youll provide leadership and guidance to the Finance Managers and Bookkeepers on your shared client accounts, ensuring workflows run smoothly, deadlines are met, and client service stays exceptional.

The ideal candidate is financially savvy, adaptable, and deeply committed to supporting nonprofit missions. They bring strong follow-through, clear communication, and a service-minded approach to every client interaction, while thriving in a fast-paced, remote environment.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role thats perfect for someone who enjoys building financial systems, guiding leaders and boards through strategic decisions, and mentoring team members to deliver their best work. Experience with nonprofit finance leadership, GAAP reporting, and managing multiple client relationships will set you up for success.
Financial Strategist Key Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis, Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting Lead and support annual budgeting processes, including operational budgets, restricted grant budgets, and federal/state grant budgetsPrepare budget-to-actual reports and provide clear analysis for leadership and boardsDeliver monthly financial forecasts and reports, incorporating regular analysis and actionable insightsPresent findings and recommendations to clients and their boards in a clear, accessible wayProcess Improvement Review, develop, document, and update finance processes, procedures, and systemsCreate and maintain written and video SOPs to enhance efficiency and ensure consistency in financial operationsAudit Support Lead and support audit processes, including liaising with third-party audit firms.

Prepare and provide required work papers and documentation, and review draft reports.

Ensure clients are audit-ready at all times through proactive organization and compliance.990 Preparation & Filing Prepare and electronically file 990-Series Forms, ensuring accuracy and complianceOversee the internal review process and state tax return form filingsBookkeeping Support 100DC bookkeepers with the monthly close process in QuickBooks Online, including bank, credit card, and payment platform reconciliations; A/P and A/R reconciliations; fundraising database reconciliations; and journal entriesCoach and mentor bookkeepers on shared client accounts to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistencyProject Management Serve as lead project manager for client onboarding and various accounting projectsUse tools like Double, Slack, and email to manage organization tasks, timelines, and budgetsTeam Collaboration Partner with other Financial Strategists, Finance Managers, and Bookkeepers to share knowledge, improve processes, and celebrate wins.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Proven experience in nonprofit financial management, including 990 preparation, nonprofit audits, FASB and GAAP requirements, and restricted funds managementAdvanced QuickBooks skills (Preferably ProAdvisor Certified)Proficiency in accounting software, financial tools, and software like QuickBooks Online, Google Sheets, Excel, SaasAnt, Google Workspace, Dropbox, Expensify, Slack, Double, Zoom, Gusto as well as experience with software integrations with QuickBooks OnlineExceptional client service skills with a proactive approach to solving problemsAbility to seamlessly manage a roster of 10-12 clients and their individual priorities and needsAll new hires onboard with a smaller roster of clients with the expectation of reaching minimum capacity within 3-4 months Full capacity typically includes managing 10-12 clients with varying complexityComfort managing a client portfolio where workload and capacity needs vary based on client complexity, onboarding and transition periods, board and reporting cycles, and seasonal peaks, particularly during budgeting, audit, and 990 seasons.

Experience:

Schedule:

Salary Range:
