Education High School Diploma required. Work Experience Must have six (6) months experience in patient registration and/or billing and collections. Hospital account collections or billing experience preferred.License/Certification:

coding helpfulESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Confirms level, terms of coverage, and benefit limits with health insurance providers. Advises patients of any alternative sources of funding or assistance available from social service agencies. Prepares and files any documentation needed to complete payment arrangements. Has general knowledge of insurance terms and practices. Reviews insurance and costs of procedures with patients before admitting them to the hospital. Takes patient payment is in cash, the financial counselor may also collect the payment and update the patient billing records. Assists patients with financial referrals and payment resources Reviews daily IP, ER, Surgery and OP admissions that are Private Pay Responsible for financially clearing patients at ER, hospital bedside or OP registration to obtain cash payment or determine eligibility for various governmental programs. Conducts interview with patients and / or family members Notifies hospital case management, social services and admission staff of case screening determinations and outcomes via verbal and written communications Calculates and collects cash payments appropriately for all patients Advises self-pay patients of their medical options available in the community for future follow-up care Participates in data gathering for financial reporting Sets up arrangements / monthly installment plans for patients to payoff balances within the guidelines of HMC collection policy.OTHER DUTIES
May arrange for referrals or second opinions. Assists in registering patients or admitting patients when needed. Performs other duties and special project work as required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
