Position Summary This position is responsible for professionally presenting Northwest University's financial aid and scholarship opportunities to the assigned student populations. The Student Financial Services Advisor will ensure accurate and prompt administration and packaging of all financial aid programs for undergraduate and graduate students on the Kirkland Campus, complete the federal verification process, and comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations. This position is also responsible for assisting with the administration of Nelnet payment plans. Essential Functions
Counsels prospective and current students (individual appointments, telephone, virtual, and email) on the financial aid process at NU, tracks documents, and awards and verifies student records in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Resolves conflicting information between student applications and federal tax returns in compliance with federal requirements.
Counsels prospective and current students on payment plan arrangements and past due balances.
Is an active participant in interdepartmental meetings, Student Financial Services staff meetings, and various training opportunities. Participates in financial aid training activities off-campus and/or online as deemed appropriate by the director.
Supports and works in cooperation with other departments.
Assists in the administration of Nelnet payment plans, which may include advertising and setting up plans, running reports and assessing if plans are correct, monitoring student accounts, and following up with enrollees for adjustments.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills
One to three years of financial aid experience is preferred, and a bachelor's degree is required.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through writing, with staff, students and prospective students using tact, courtesy, good judgment, and confidentiality.
Demonstrates organizational skills and the ability to provide strong attention to detail.
Demonstrates strong math skills.
Ability to work independently and multi-task; is self-motivated, flexible, and can work with interruptions.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
Ability to quickly learn and retain the complexities of student financial policy and issues.
Expertise in the use of office tools: personal computer, and software programs such as Windows, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Working Environment
Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.
Some weekend/evening work may be required.
Travel, including overnight travel, may be required. Position works with strictly confidential information.
Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods.
Physical Demands The functions are usually performed while sitting at a desk may involve some amount of time stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing, and speaking are also required. Compensation Based on education and experience, the position has a hiring range of $19.50/hour to $20.50/hour plus excellent benefits.
