Job Description

Job Description Background and General Summary:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals operates at the forefront of scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Casgevy, a gene therapy for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia and Journavx, a novel new treatment for moderate to severe acute pain. Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases including programs in kidney diseases, Type 1 diabetes, among others. As Vertex grows in scale and complexity, it is establishing a new center of excellence—the Global Pricing & Analytics Group (GPAG)—to build industry-leading capabilities in global pricing analytics. GPAG will evaluate pricing strategies, measure performance, and deliver actionable insights across regions and the portfolio. Vertex is seeking a Senior Director based in Boston, MA, to lead this new function within the current Global Value & Access Strategy (GVAS) team. This role reports to the VP of GVAS and will serve on the GVAS Leadership Team. The Head of GPAG will help shape the group's long-term vision and develop a five-year roadmap for priority technology and pricing capabilities, define the target future state, identify gaps and the resources required to deliver change. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong cross-functional leadership, thrive in a complex environment, and bring a problem-solving mindset grounded in strong analytical skills. As a senior member of the GVAS team, this individual must model Vertex's ethics and culture and be committed to developing the next generation of leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead development of a Global Pricing Analytics capability to sustain value optimization for the Vertex portfolio Assess the current Global pricing data infrastructure and provide recommendations for future requirements Develop a set of Global Pricing Analytics deliverables to guide decision-making and performance assessments across Vertex disease areas and Regions Build a Global Pricing Analytics reporting infrastructure that integrates multiple data sources and automates insight delivery, including realized prices Serve as the Global Value & Access Strategy subject matter expert on Advanced Analytics, including appropriate integration of Artificial Intelligence pilots, capabilities and training for GVAS Oversee operations for Global Price Governance including continual updating of guidance documents to audit standards, templates and Regional training Ensure compliance with Global Price Policies in partnership with GVAS Disease Area Leads, and manage the annual review process for Global price floors Develop disease specific performance analytics analyzing negotiation outcomes and achievement of business results relative to pre-deal analysis Lead pricing capability development as required including elements of lifecycle pricing, launch sequencing and risk assessment in close cooperation with relevant stakeholders Lead development of systematic P&MA global horizon scanning and internal knowledge management to increase team efficiency and effectiveness of external insights Partner with key stakeholders, including US and International Market Access, Global Value & Access Strategy, Global Commercial Strategy, Finance, and DTE to support the development of key GPAG deliverables
Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, ideally in life sciences, post graduate preferred 12+ years of direct biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience; 5+ years of supervisory / management experience preferred Working knowledge of US and/or ex-US pricing environment is required Strong practical, quantitative and analytical skills combined with a sound understanding of how to successfully apply pricing & reimbursement principles to support Vertex Excellent working knowledge of US and International Market Access data sets including MMIT, IQVIA, Pricing / GTN (Model-N), and Real-World Data (DRG, Market Scan, etc.). Experience creating and/or supporting complex analytics and working closely with data scientists Strong proficiency in Tableau and/or Power BI, along with working knowledge of data lake platforms such as Snowflake is a plus. Exhibits outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Vertex Demonstrated ability to manage initiatives that require cross-functional collaboration and relationships at all levels of the organization and across geographies General experience in commercialization and drug development Recognized as a team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is entrepreneurial, decisive, and self-motivated; possesses a sense of urgency with the ability and strong desire to "make things happen" Displays sound ethics and a fit for Vertex's core values and culture

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
