Job Description

FIELD APPRAISER-OFFICE ASSISTANT
The Town of Dennis seeks a full time (35 hrs/wk) Field Appraiser-Office Assistant for the Assessing Department.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. 1. Conducts site evaluation of real estate and business properties in the town of Dennis; takes measurements and photographs, verifies data and records, and creates a record of each property. 2. Reviews new building materials as they pertain to building permits issued by the Building Department. 3. Reviews real estate properties as they are sold on the real estate market; reviews all components on the property card as vacant and improved to insure fair market value. 4. Maintains and updates records, database, and files of information for the department. 5. Answers complex inquiries and provides information to the general public regarding property valuations. 6. Maintains and upgrades statutory and operational knowledge of assessing. 7. Employee is required to learn the office procedures as the employee will be required to assist office staff when the office is busy or short staffed. 8. Processes motor vehicle and boat excise abatements including access to the State Registry of Motor Vehicle database. 9. Transfers property through deeds, death certificates and probate obtained from Registry of Deeds and researches deeds as required to determine proper transaction codes for D.O.R. sales records. Sends sales questionnaires to grantees to verify accurate description of transferred property and to determine arms-length status of transfer. 10. Input of property data collected by Assistant Assessor/Field Appraiser and the Field Appraiser during cyclical review and permit inspection.
Salary:
This position is an
AFSCME-A
covered position, Grade 3 and is fully benefited. Starting hourly rate based on qualifications is $27.31.
Education and Experience:
Position requires a High School Degree or equivalent, and 1 to 3 years of experience in construction, real estate, assessing, and/or property valuation; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
