Commissioning projects may include Mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and sometimes architectural and related systems. Retro-commissioning, energy audits and site investigation services are frequently required. The Commissioning and Energy Services team also provides construction administration services for some of the firm's projects.

Essential Functions:
Review of submittals and shop drawings. Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, installation checklists, functional performance tests, and other commissioning-related documents. Coordinate and attend on-site commissioning meetings, review installations, and controls coordination meetings. Execute construction phase review services consisting of submittal review, RFI responses, supplemental instructions, develop and maintain issues logs, prepare field reports and meeting minutes. Coordinate, direct and document the functional testing of MEP systems and controls. Utilize Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam, Data Loggers, and general industry software. Revit and/or AutoCAD are not necessary but are a plus. Participate in client meetings, conduct field surveys, including areas in crawl spaces and above ceilings, and thoroughly document existing conditions.
Competencies :
Strong understanding of building systems across disciplines and extensive knowledge in at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls. Understanding of MEP engineering concepts and installation best practices. Construction drawing and specification interpretation experience. Strong knowledge of the design, construction and commissioning processes, including sequencing and responsibilities. Understanding of local energy codes and commissioning requirements. Field experience, including experience using data loggers and air flow measurement equipment. Knowledge of Test and Balance concepts and ability to review and interpret balancing reports. Understanding of applicable design codes, design standards and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them. Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate effectively with clients, co-workers, and others. Excellent technical comprehension and ability to communicate complex concepts to clients and others. Multi-tasking is a must. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational abilities, be able to handle working on multiple projects at a time and the ability to maintain concentration while working on tasks. Education and Experience :
(a) Required
- Significant controls experience and one of the following: (i) Minimum of three (3) years of commercial construction experience in HVAC, controls or electrical systems installation. OR (ii) Minimum of three (3) years of MEP commissioning and/or energy services including energy audits, retro-commissioning, benchmarking and troubleshooting. (b) Preferred
- (i) Four-year college degree in related field. (ii) Commissioning certification through ACG, BCA, NEBB, ASHRAE, or comparable. (ii) Trade, Inspection, or Professional Engineering license. (iii) LEED certification. (iv) Understanding of DDC controls/BAS. Supervisory Responsibility
- Ability to manage projects and assigned support staff. Ability to mentor less experienced staff. Work Environment
- Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to a variety of locations for meetings, observations, and testing are also required. Expected Hours
- This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week.
A 7AM to 9AM start time will be negotiated with your supervisor. Schedule will be coordinated with the normal Monday through Friday, 9AM to 3PM core hours. An unpaid lunch hour beginning at 11:45AM is available. Requires adjusting schedule to suit clients and working overtime as necessary to satisfactorily meet project schedules. Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time.
It also requires the use of basic motor, oral, and visual skills, such as the ability to walk, use hands, talk, hear, and the ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, and to adjust focus. It requires the ability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain at construction sites, and lift/carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs. Travel
- This position requires regular day trips throughout the mid-Atlantic area. It requires an occasional overnight trip and travel by plane. It requires a valid driver's license and appropriate vehicle. Work Authorization/Security Clearance
