Job Description
A Property Preservation Field Tech (or "Field Tech") is someone who inspects, maintains, and secures properties—mainly vacant or foreclosed homes —on behalf of banks, mortgage companies, or property management firms. Responsibilities Secure the property : change locks, board up windows, install lockboxes Inspect the property : take detailed photos, document damage or hazards Perform light maintenance : mow lawns, clean out debris, minor repairs Winterize homes : especially in cold climates (drain pipes, shut off water, etc.) Report back to the company with photos and documentation Skills A reliable vehicle (usually a truck or van) Basic tools : drills, lock change kits, yard equipment Smartphone/tablet with camera and GPS Ability to follow work orders and complete reports on time Comfort working independently and in rough or rural areas Challenges Unpredictable hours and weather Dealing with abandoned or unsafe properties Requires attention to detail , punctuality, and physical stamina How Much Does It Pay? Often paid per job or per property , not hourly Rates vary based on location and company—common range is $30 to $100+ per job , depending on complexity This Is A 1099 contractors
