Job Description

Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a Real Estate Appraiser to join our Tax Department. The Real Estate Appraiser performs technical work in appraising land, residential buildings, and building improvements for tax assessment purposes. Work involves contacting property owners, sketching layouts of structures, and determining the property size, type of construction, grade of materials, quality of workmanship, and other related appraisal data needed to arrive at the taxable value. The Real Estate Appraiser will also be responsible for computing and pricing lot sizes, construction areas, subdivisions, and land splits. Work requires the Real Estate Appraiser to take initiative and display independent judgment to ensure proper application of established policies and procedures to individual appraisal cases. If you are a customer focused individual with excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, and are able to show tact, courtesy, and firmness in frequent contact with property owners and the public, we'd love to talk to you! The Real Estate Appraiser reports directly to a Chief Appraiser. High school diploma (or equivalent) AND two (2) to five (5) years of experience in real property appraisal; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Valid NC or SC driver license required. Tax Appraiser Certification (from Ad Valorem Tax Division of the NC Department of Revenue) or the ability to attain within first two (2) years of employment Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, map machines, microfilm viewers, tape measures, tape rollers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Must work in outside environment.
