Job Description

Job Description A large Gas Utility employer sitting in Southern California is looking to hire a Principal Threat and Risk Engineer. This person will be reporting to their Anaheim base (x4 days a week). This person will be providing leadership through managing a team of SME's that will be assessing risk helping to identify pipeline corrosion and/or geo-hazards. He/she will need to be specialized in certain areas of risk, understanding pipeline corrosion, risk modeling and machine learning. This Engineer will need to be providing their findings to executive leadership and will need to be familiar with FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis). He/She will need to apply knowledge of coding in python and how to quantify that risk and potential failure of pipelines. This person will be responsible for driving reliability improvements through comprehensive lifecycle planning and advanced root cause investigations. Initially, the work will be mostly collaborating with others and working with consultants to understand the risk models we use and how they are applied to integrity management and after getting up to speed, the expectation would be more independent analysis. He/she will partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to implement corrective actions and verify effectiveness using reliability metrics and performance dashboards. This role pays between ($150,000
  • 229,500 with a minimum bonus of 15%
  • based off the individuals and company performance), depending on years of experience and qualifications.
Additional responsibilities include:
Leads reliability assessments, studies, and investigations on equipment failures to identify underlying causes; develops detailed reports and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Performs comprehensive Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential failure points and assess their impact on equipment and system reliability; works with cross-functional teams to prioritize and implement strategies that address identified weaknesses. Monitors key performance indicators related to reliability and produces regular reports; provides data-driven recommendations to leadership for performance improvements. Assesses and refines existing reliability methodologies; suggests enhancements to increase system availability and operational efficiency based on observed data and industry best practices. Creates and maintains detailed asset maintenance plans and spare parts inventory lists; focuses on prolonging equipment lifespan and improving operational readiness. Influences maintenance and operations policies through reliability insights. Reports performance metrics to leadership and presents improvement roadmaps with measurable milestones. Coordinates multi‑site reliability program pilots and scales proven practices; sets baseline and target metrics for uptime and maintenance costs; provides compliance input for reliability practices, standards and procedures.   • Obtained Bachelor's Degree in related Engineering field
  • 10+ years of experience and 6 years minimum related to risk, reliability and threat evaluation
  • Experienced in leading and managing a team assessing risk, geo-hazards, and performing risk modeling
  • Strong experience in machine learning, FMEA, coding in Python
  • Ability to quantify risk data and present to executive leadership; Strong ability to communicate Applied previous Gas Utility experience
