Job Description

If you are motivated and believe in the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People," join our team! PURPOSE As a Principal Enterprise IT Risk Engineer, you will serve as the technical leader and subject matter expert responsible for the design, configuration, development, integration, and continuous optimization of the Archer enterprise GRC platform. This senior role demands deep expertise in GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) platform engineering, hands-on configuration and development skills, agile delivery practices, and the ability to provide strategic guidance to senior leadership while mentoring junior team members and acting as a trusted advisor across the organization. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology, systems, process improvement, learning new things, and whose strengths are in complete alignment with this position. May work in our Raleigh, NC office, or remotely (as long as located within NC).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the configuration, customization, and ongoing support of the Archer enterprise GRC solution. Gather feedback and requirements for GRC implementations, then reduce them to the simplest and most efficient technical designs and configurations. Implement the various modules in the Archer platform with a focus on incremental delivery (minimal viable product/agile). Make key decisions that influence the overall direction and architecture of the GRC platform. Continually evaluate the environment to identify and implement continuous improvements to processes and platform design. Provide guidance, coaching, and technical direction to more junior employees as appropriate. Follow a continuous delivery agile release cycle, where configuration packages are installed weekly or more. Establish and maintain data feeds and integrations with other enterprise solutions as necessary. Protect operations by keeping information confidential and applying industry-standard security controls. Serve as alternate technical SME and emergency backup for the Enterprise IT Risk Technology Manager. Other responsibilities as necessary to support the enterprise GRC program.
EXPERIENCE
7+ years of experience. Successfully configured and implemented numerous Archer use cases at medium to large-sized company(s). Hands-on experience configuring the Archer software platform. Woven various Archer use cases into a unified framework using Risk and Control libraries and taxonomies. Participated in an agile (or hybrid) software team with daily stand-ups.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Mastery of the Archer software platform.
Proven advanced expertise in:
Calculated fields, calculated cross-references, and data publications. Data Feeds, including Archer-to-Archer. Archer Control Panel and Job Engine. Advanced Workflow design, configuration, and automation. Custom reporting, dashboards, data modeling, and advanced analytics. Solution design, application building, workflows, and enterprise integrations. API development and integration. Ability to work in a truly Agile environment. Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders. Solid understanding of IT risk management, controls frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), compliance processes, and risk assessment methodologies.
SOFT SKILLS
Genuine passion for the work - enthusiastic about system configuration, process improvement, GRC platform optimization, and helping others succeed in their goals. High degree of independence, self-motivation, and the ability to manage competing priorities while continually seeking opportunities to help the team and drive continuous improvement with minimal bureaucracy. High degree of intellectual humility and adaptability. Understands that just because a solution worked one way at another organization does not mean it is the right approach here; tailors solutions to the unique needs of the business. Leads with honesty and integrity above all else; operates with radical candor, vulnerability, and transparency.
Pragmatic and results-oriented mindset:
does not confuse "process" with "product," comfortably navigates the gray areas of GRC program maturation, and applies the 80/20 principle to keep initiatives moving forward efficiently. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to any audience. Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills; able to quickly establish trust, work effectively across departments and cultures, and get results from a wide variety of personality types. Ability to connect dots between disparate processes and weave them into a unified, coherent framework. SECU provides equal employment opportunity to all qualified persons regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or other classification protected by law.
