Job Description

We are looking for a Compliance and Risk Management Specialist to support regulatory adherence, patient safety, and enterprise risk activities for a healthcare organization in Honolulu, Hawaii. This Contract position will oversee compliance programs, privacy practices, policy governance, and incident review processes while helping strengthen a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate brings experience in healthcare compliance, HIPAA privacy oversight, risk assessment, and staff education, along with the ability to partner effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams. Responsibilities:
  • Lead organizational compliance efforts by evaluating practices against healthcare program standards and recommending updates that keep internal policies aligned with current regulatory expectations.
  • Manage the policy and procedure lifecycle, including scheduled reviews, revisions, documentation control, and coordination of updates related to privacy, safety, emergency readiness, and risk management requirements.
  • Act as the primary privacy compliance resource by overseeing HIPAA education, reviewing potential privacy or security concerns, and guiding investigations to resolution.
  • Develop and coordinate corrective action plans when compliance gaps or privacy violations are identified, ensuring remediation steps are documented, implemented, and monitored.
  • Handle confirmed breach response activities, including required notifications, internal coordination, and maintenance of accurate records for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Administer incident reporting processes by tracking events, conducting reviews, supporting investigations, and identifying trends that may affect patients, clients, or employees.
  • Facilitate recurring incident review meetings, prepare agendas and follow-up materials, and coordinate approved communications related to patient or payer restrictions with appropriate departments.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and patient safety initiatives by participating in committee work, presenting risk-related findings, and supporting action plans designed to reduce exposure.
  • Complete annual and quarterly risk assessments, deliver risk management training to staff, and prepare reports for leadership and board-level review.
  • Coordinate liability coverage renewals and provider status updates with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain appropriate risk protection.
