Job Summary:
The Director of Risk is responsible for leading and overseeing enterprise-wide risk management, insurance, health and safety, and asset protection functions within a nonprofit organization. This role focuses on three primary responsibilities: developing and implementing risk management strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance and safety standards, and safeguarding organizational assets and operations. This position is critical in mitigating risks, protecting organizational integrity, and fostering a safe and secure environment for employees, program participants, customers, and volunteers.Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee enterprise risk management, insurance, safety, loss prevention, and security functions
- Develop, implement, and update risk management policies and procedures
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational and enterprise risk factors
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and safety standards
- Monitor and evaluate risk exposure, mitigation strategies, and organizational performance metrics
- Lead emergency preparedness and business continuity planning efforts
- Provide strategic input on new initiatives, sites, and operational systems
- Advise leadership on risk-related policies and recommend improvements
- Supervise and manage Risk Management department staff, including hiring, performance management, and development
- Coordinate enterprise-wide compliance efforts and reporting across divisions
- Support training initiatives related to safety, risk management, and operational best practices
- Oversee insurance programs, including renewals, claims, and coverage assessments
- Provide guidance on insurance requirements for contracts and vendor relationships
- Ensure protection and security of organizational facilities and assets
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience required; OR Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience required
- Degree in Risk Management, Safety, Business, or a related field required
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required
- Experience with regulatory reporting and oversight in a multi-divisional organization required
Special Requirements:
- Professional certifications such as risk management or insurance-related designations preferred
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
- Ability to obtain required background clearances prior to employment
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance standards and risk management frameworks
- Ability to lead large-scale safety initiatives and training programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, safety, and insurance principles
- Ability to analyze risk exposure and implement effective mitigation strategies
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent leadership and team management skills

Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment within a multi-site organization. The role involves collaboration with leadership, staff, and external partners, and may require travel between locations.
