Job Description
What we do: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento (HFHGS) provides Sacramento and Yolo County individuals and families with a springboard to secure, stable futures through affordable homeownership, home repairs, and neighborhood revitalization. Annually, HFHGS impacts over 8,000 people through home build, repair, and community projects.
Your Impact:
The core function of this position is to support construction operations for Home Preservation projects through a combination of procurement, logistics, and hands-on fieldwork. This role ensures that materials, tools, and equipment are available, tracked, and maintained, while also actively participating in construction activities alongside Site Supervisors and volunteers. The Construction Procurement & Repair Tradesperson is the Construction Department Hazmat handling and disposal lead, removing all construction debris from build sites and keeping detailed and accurate records of transportation, storage, and disposal of all materials as required. This team member is an essential member of the Construction Department's administrative and operational success. Position Responsibilities Procurement & Logistics Supports the Director of Construction - Home Preservation (DOC-HP) with bulk material purchasing and overall construction operations Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors; keeps current pricing and contact information for all suppliers Secures day-to-day construction materials for Site Supervisors, including pick-up and delivery of will-call and time-sensitive items Develops and maintains systems for material take-offs, tracking, and returns in alignment with HFHGS guidelines Codes and processes invoices related to materials, services, and maintenance; assigns costs to appropriate projects and routes for approval Inventory & Equipment Management Develops and implements systems for proper use, storage, maintenance, and inventory of construction tools and equipment Maintains adequate stock of materials, tools, safety equipment, and emergency supplies in the construction yard and job sites Schedules and/or performs routine maintenance of tools, equipment, and assigned fleet vehicle; maintains accurate service records Ensures cleanliness and proper upkeep of assigned company vehicle Field Operations & Site Support Works on-site alongside Site Supervisors and volunteers, supporting construction activities across all phases of projects Builds strong working relationships with Site Supervisors to ensure materials and resources are available as needed Assists with SWPPP compliance and general site maintenance in accordance with project plans Trains and orients volunteers, AmeriCorps members, and crew leaders on construction tasks while maintaining Habitat quality standards Oversees occasional projects or special events as directed Safety, Compliance & Environmental Responsibility Operates within HfHGS safety standards and actively supports Cal OSHA compliance for staff and volunteers Leads construction debris removal, including proper transportation, storage, disposal, and documentation in compliance with all regulations Supervises and engages volunteers to ensure safe, productive job sites Operates or is willing to be trained and certified on forklifts and other construction equipment Volunteer and Homeowner Leadership and Engagement Create welcoming, enthusiastic and positive worksite for all volunteers, build sponsors and homeowners Engage volunteers onsite, providing all necessary skills needed to perform the tasks for the day Communicate with homeowners and volunteers with patience and encouragement, maintaining a safe environment for skilled and unskilled volunteers Work Experience Requirements 5+ years of hands-on construction experience, including areas such as fencing, landscaping, painting, siding, or repair work Familiarity with construction terms, tools, techniques, and technology Warehouse and inventory management experience strongly preferred 1+ year driving pickup trucks, vans; 16 and 24 foot flatbed trucks is a plus (Class A not required) Educational Requirements A high school diploma or equivalent is required, some college is preferred Proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and additional computer related skills Proficient in ProCore software (training provided) Required Personal Attributes Clear verbal and written communication skills are required Flexible temperament, adaptable, solution-oriented Organized and attentive to details Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of tasks Comfortable with leadership when necessary, but also a solid team player Is familiar with a variety of the construction field concepts, practices, and procedures Experience in managing multiple projects concurrently Takes direction from others Schedule Tuesday -Saturday:
6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with some late afternoons and evenings when necessary Physical Requirements Ability to work in hard-hat areas, on ladders, on scaffolding, wet surfaces, uneven surfaces and with exposure to outdoor heat and cold Ability to manually lift up to 75 pounds Visual acuity and ability to hear is necessary to assure safe operations and activities on work sites and situational awareness Ability to work with routine exposure to high decibel noises, such as power tools Ability to perform routine physical actions including: Standing Bending Lifting bulk objects Repetitive manual action - use of hand tools Driving vehicles Loading and unloading awkward or hazardous materials Licenses and/or Certificates Candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and meet Habitat's automobile insurability requirement, including annual DMV report Must have or complete: CPR and First Aid certification will be required within 90 days of hire (at company expense) Forklift certificate HFH Competent Person Safety Training Certificate Company Anti-Harassment Certificate 30/60/90 day employee evaluation Must pass a background check and drug screeningPay:
