Commodities Trading Support / Application Specialist (Metals)

$150,000 + $190,000 + Bonus A global investment bank is looking to hire a senior application support specialist to join its commodities trading technology team. This role sits directly alongside front office users, focusing on supporting and improving systems used in derivatives trading, with particular emphasis on metals. You'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing mission-critical trading applications, partnering closely with traders, engineers, and product teams to ensure stability, performance, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience across technology and/or production support environments Strong background in capital markets with exposure to commodities or derivatives Experience supporting trading systems in a fast-paced, front office setting Understanding of trade lifecycle, pricing, and risk concepts (including derivatives) Experience working with databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and writing complex SQL queries Hands-on experience in Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting Familiarity with DevOps tooling, version control (Git), and build pipelines (Jenkins or similar) Prior experience working closely with traders or on a trading floor is highly preferred Experience with metals trading is a strong plus
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day support for trading applications, ensuring system stability and rapid issue resolution Act as a key escalation point for production issues impacting front office users Partner with traders and business stakeholders to diagnose issues and implement improvements Work closely with engineering teams to support releases, deployments, and system enhancements Analyze workflows and identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency Develop tools and processes to reduce risk and prevent production incidents Collaborate across front, middle, and back office teams to support business-critical initiatives Contribute to ongoing improvements in system monitoring, support procedures, and platform resilience
