Houston, TX Job Overview:
A leading hedge fund is seeking a highly motivated ERCOT Power Trader to join its Houston-based team. This role is ideal for candidates with 2-5 years of hands-on trading experience who are looking to deepen their exposure to the ERCOT market within a data-driven, collaborative environment. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced traders, quantitative researchers, and developers to identify and execute profitable trading strategies across the ERCOT power markets.
Responsibilities:
Execute power trades within the ERCOT market Monitor market conditions, grid fundamentals, and price movements to identify trading opportunities Develop and refine trading strategies using both fundamental analysis and quantitative inputs Collaborate with quantitative researchers and data teams to enhance models, signals, and forecasting tools Manage risk exposure and ensure adherence to internal risk limits and compliance standards Analyze transmission congestion, load forecasts, generation outages, and weather impacts on pricing Maintain and improve trade tracking, P&L attribution, and performance reporting Stay up-to-date on ERCOT market rules, regulatory changes, and structural developments
Qualifications:
Must have 2-5 years of experience in a power trading seat, within ERCOT Strong understanding of ERCOT market structure, including nodal pricing, congestion, and ancillary services Demonstrated ability to manage risk and execute trades in a fast-paced environment Analytical mindset with strong quantitative and problem-solving skills Experience working with data, including Excel; familiarity with Python or other programming languages Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across trading, research, and technology teams Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as finance, economics, engineering, or mathematics
