Job Description

Junior ERCOT Power Trader - Houston, TX Overview We are seeking a motivated and analytically driven Junior ERCOT Power Trader to join our Houston-based trading team. This role supports real-time and day-ahead power trading activities within the ERCOT market, focusing on execution, analysis, and risk management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has a strong interest in energy markets. Key Responsibilities Assist in executing real-time and day-ahead trades in the ERCOT market under senior trader guidance Monitor ERCOT market conditions , including load forecasts, generation outages, congestion, and pricing trends Analyze nodal pricing, basis spreads, and congestion drivers to identify trading opportunities Support development and maintenance of trading models, dashboards, and analytics tools Track and report P&L, exposure, and risk metrics on a daily basis Coordinate with scheduling, risk, and operations teams to ensure accurate trade execution and compliance Maintain awareness of ERCOT protocols, market rules, and regulatory updates Prepare daily and weekly market summaries and contribute to trade strategy discussions Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field 1-3 years of experience in energy trading, commodities, financial markets, or analytical roles Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (required); Python, VBA, or SQL a plus Understanding of power markets, especially ERCOT structure (preferred but not required) Ability to work shift schedules , including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Strong attention to detail and ability to make decisions in a time-sensitive environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Preferred Skills Familiarity with ERCOT nodal market, SCED, DAM/RTM dynamics Experience with market data tools (Yes Energy, ABB, Power BI, etc.) Knowledge of fundamental drivers (weather, load, renewables, transmission) Basic understanding of risk management and hedging strategies
