Job Description
Description We are looking for a remote Sr. Fuel Tax Analyst to support fuel tax processes for an Arizona based client. This Long-term Contract position offers the opportunity to work alongside offshore teams, ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and perform detailed accounting and reconciliation tasks. The role requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills and a commitment to maintaining accuracy and efficiency in tax-related operations.
Responsibilities:
- Support offshore fuel tax team members in preparing monthly fuel tax returns, providing daily troubleshooting support.
- File and remit fuel tax returns online and via hard copy, including processing payments accurately and on time.
- Prepare and file complex fuel tax returns while ensuring compliance with federal, state, county, and city regulations.
- Maintain detailed tax records and schedules related to multi-state motor fuel and environmental tax jurisdictions.
- Analyze fuel reporting metrics using internal systems and databases to ensure accurate reporting.
- Research and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices promptly and effectively.
- Reconcile fuel tax accounts with the General Ledger on a regular basis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting principles.
- Manage fuel tax audits and respond to documentation requests, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Provide guidance on tax-related inquiries by interpreting state and local regulations and offering solutions.
- Enforce adherence to corporate systems and policies while maintaining financial security through internal controls.
- One to five years of experience in fuel tax processes and compliance.
- Proficiency in Word and advanced Excel skills; experience with Avalara is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize detailed information effectively.
- Proven problem-solving and data analysis capabilities.
- Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a committed team player, handling multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
