This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys preparing accurate tax returns, communicating with clients, reviewing documents, solving tax questions, and being part of a collaborative team that values quality, professionalism, and client care. We are looking for someone who can support individual and business tax preparation while following firm procedures, protecting confidential client information, and helping clients feel supported throughout the tax process. Position Summary The In-House Tax Advisor / Tax Preparer will prepare and assist with filing individual and business tax returns, communicate with clients, collect and review tax documents, assist with tax research and planning, support IRS and state notice responses, and follow TaxAce's tax preparation and compliance procedures. This role requires an active PTIN . California CTEC registration is required if applicable , unless the employee is exempt due to another qualifying credential. An Enrolled Agent designation is preferred , but we are open to strong candidates with solid tax preparation experience.
Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include:
Prepare accurate individual and business tax returns based on assigned role level Review client tax documents for completeness, accuracy, and missing information Conduct client interviews and follow-up communication Prepare tax workpapers, notes, checklists, and supporting documentation Use firm-approved tax software and clear diagnostics before review Perform basic tax research and escalate complex tax matters when needed Assist with tax planning calculations, estimates, and projections Draft IRS and state notice responses for senior review Follow TaxAce's preparation, review, billing, e-file, and documentation procedures Maintain professional, timely, and clear client communication Identify potential advisory, bookkeeping, payroll, entity, or tax planning opportunities Protect confidential client information and follow all data security procedures What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, professional, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven tax environment. You should be able to manage your workload, communicate clearly, and accept review notes as part of the quality control process.
Required qualifications and skills:
Active PTIN Tax preparation experience Working knowledge of individual tax preparation Strong attention to detail and accuracy Strong documentation habits Ability to review documents and identify missing information Professional written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage deadlines and workload during busy season Ability to escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately Strong confidentiality, ethics, and professional judgment Willingness to follow firm procedures and improve through review feedback Preferred qualifications: Enrolled Agent designation California CTEC registration, if applicable Experience preparing business tax returns Experience with California tax returns Experience with IRS or state notice responses Experience with tax planning calculations, estimates, or projections Experience working in an accounting or tax firm environment Work Environment The role requires working at a computer for extended periods, communicating by phone, email, video, and written message, reviewing digital and paper documents, and using standard office equipment. This includes following firm procedures related to secure communication, password and MFA requirements, secure file-sharing, approved client communication methods, the firm's Written Information Security Plan, IRS Publication 4557 standards, and FTC Safeguards Rule procedures.
