As a Sr Tax Analyst I at Gilead you will... The position works closely with and reports to the State Tax Senior Manager and Senior Director of State Tax. The role is well suited for a detail oriented SALT professional who enjoys owning day to day tax processes, working directly with data and filings, and developing deep operational knowledge across multiple state tax types within a collaborative and mentorship driven environment. State Tax Senior Analyst in Foster City, California. This role is a hands on, processing oriented position with core responsibility for executing and managing state income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax filings and related compliance processes. Key Responsibilities Prepare and support state income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, and property tax compliance activities, including returns, extensions, estimates, and related workpapers. Compile, reconcile, and validate data required for state tax compliance, including apportionment data, tax base calculations, and supporting schedules. Maintain detailed workpapers and filing documentation to support returns, audits, and internal review. Support state tax accounting and provision processes, including return‑to‑provision analysis and FIN 48 documentation. Manage ongoing compliance calendars, filing deadlines, extensions, and estimated payment processes. Assist with state tax audits and controversy matters, including gathering data, preparing responses to information requests, and tracking audit items. Utilize OneSource and perform advanced Excel‑based modeling, reconciliations, and data analysis to support compliance accuracy and efficiency. Support state tax planning initiatives through modeling, research, and implementation assistance. Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and business partners to support transactions and ongoing operations.
Basic qualifications:
5+ Years with BS/BA 3+ Years with MS/MA Preferred Qualifications 3-5 years of hands‑on experience in state and local tax compliance, processing, or filings, in public accounting, industry, or a combination of both. Direct experience preparing or reviewing state income/franchise, sales and use, and/or property tax returns. Strong working knowledge and practical experience with OneSource. Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas, reconciliations, and large data sets. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage high‑volume, deadline‑driven processes accurately. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Experience supporting state tax audits or controversy preferred. CPA, JD, MST, or progress toward one of these credentials is a plus. The salary range for this position is: $117,895.00 - $152,570.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
