Petroleum Traders provides turnkey wholesale fuel services and full fuel inventory management solutions designed to support operational reliability and cost control. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Tax Specialist role based in Fort Wayne, IN. The Tax Specialist will prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, with a strong focus on fuel-related and excise tax compliance. This role will research tax laws and regulations, monitor changes impacting the petroleum industry, and ensure timely filing and payment of all required tax obligations. The Tax Specialist will assist with tax planning initiatives, analyze financial data for tax implications, and support audits and inquiries from tax authorities. Day-to-day responsibilities also include maintaining accurate tax records, collaborating with accounting and finance teams, and recommending process improvements to enhance compliance and efficiency. Qualifications Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in Tax, Tax Preparation, and Tax Planning. Understanding of Tax Law, including federal, state, and local regulations; experience with excise or fuel tax is a plus. Finance skills, including financial analysis, reconciliations, and interpreting financial statements for tax purposes. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., CPA, EA) is preferred but not required. Proficiency with tax and accounting software, advanced Excel skills, and comfort working with large data sets. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Prior experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or the energy/fuel industry is highly beneficial.
