OUR MISSION
The Louisiana Sales and Use Tax Commission for Remote Sellers was created by Act 274 of the 2017 Regular Legislative Session. The Commission is charged with the administration and collection of sales and use tax with respect to remote sellers. We promote uniformity and simplicity in compliance and we adhere to the Code of Government Ethics while providing leadership and professionalism in our duties to those we represent and serve.
OVERVIEW
The Tax Specialist 2 processes returns and payments, manages remote seller accounts, and assists taxpayers. Key Competencies Attention to detail, analytical skills, strong communication, and accuracy. What Makes It Unique This role supports a specialized statewide commission and plays a key part in the growing area of remote seller tax administration. Minimum Qualifications Six semester hours in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, information systems management, or quantitative methods plus one of the following: Four years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting; OR An advanced degree or Juris Doctorate; OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
The Louisiana Sales and Use Tax Commission for Remote Sellers was created and established for the administration and collection of the sales and use tax imposed by the state and political subdivisions with respect to remote sales. Reviews penalty waiver requests and makes a determination or recommendation in accordance with Commission adopted guidance Authorize or recommend issuance of any refund or credit due. Review applications submitted by businesses to determine eligibility to file as a remote seller. Open and close taxpayer accounts, generate all correspondence pertaining to new/closed accounts; verify account closings by reviewing taxpayer history to determine if there are outstanding balances due prior to closing an account. Report any outstanding balances to Executive Director prior to closing account. Ensure payments are properly recorded. Responsible for assisting taxpayers with applications, filing of returns, payment of taxes, and any general questions. Develop, analyze internal processes and recommend and implement procedural or manual changes. Educate taxpayers regarding return and payment processing and management.
