Job Description
Tax SeniorPosition Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Senior to lead tax compliance and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of individual and business clients. The Tax Senior will prepare, review, and finalize federal and state tax returns, mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and help implement tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and firm policies. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines effectively.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review individual, partnership, corporate, and other business tax returns (federal and state) accurately and on schedule.
Lead tax engagements from planning through delivery, including client intake, document requests, workflow management, and final review.
Conduct thorough tax research and apply current tax laws, regulations, and firm policies to client situations.
Supervise, mentor, and train junior staff and interns; review their work to ensure quality and adherence to deadlines.
Identify and communicate tax planning opportunities and potential risks to clients and engagement partners.
Coordinate with clients, external advisors, and internal teams to resolve complex tax issues and obtain necessary documentation.
Manage tax projections, estimates, and quarterly tax processes as needed.
Maintain accurate engagement documentation, checklists, and working papers in accordance with firm standards.
Participate in business development activities, including client meetings and proposal preparation, as required.
Utilize tax preparation software and accounting tools to increase efficiency and ensure data integrity.
QualificationsLicensed CPA preferred; active CPA license or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam is highly desirable.3+ years of public accounting experience with progressive responsibilities as a Tax Senior or similar role.
Proven experience preparing and reviewing individual returns, partnership returns, corporate returns, and other business tax filings.
Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and tax research tools.
Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., UltraTax, ProSystem fx, Drake) and advanced Excel skills.
Demonstrated ability to prep, review, and finalize returns accurately with strong attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional client-facing experience.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines.
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Tax or accounting is a plus.
Commitment to continuing professional education and maintaining up-to-date tax knowledge.
