Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tax Specialist with extensive knowledge of both nonprofit and for-profit healthcare taxation, with a strong emphasis on nonprofit hospital systems. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations while supporting strategic tax planning across a complex healthcare organization. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in tax-exempt healthcare organizations, including IRS regulations governing nonprofit hospitals, community benefit reporting, unrelated business income tax (UBIT), and healthcare-specific tax matters. Experience with physician groups, joint ventures, taxable subsidiaries, and other healthcare entities is highly desirable.
SPECIFIC SKILLS NEEDED
  • Strong experience with nonprofit hospital taxation.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing IRS Form 990 and Form 990-T.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations affecting nonprofit and for-profit healthcare organizations.
  • Experience researching complex tax issues and interpreting tax legislation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nonprofit healthcare tax regulations and IRS guidance.
  • Strong understanding of tax-exempt organization compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of corporate taxation for healthcare organizations.
  • Ability to communicate complex tax matters to finance and operational leaders.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive tax experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare tax experience, including nonprofit healthcare organizations.
Preferred:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.
  • Experience with large integrated health systems.
  • Experience supporting physician practices, ambulatory services, and healthcare joint ventures.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and its impact on tax reporting.
  • Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Familiarity with tax compliance software and ERP systems (Workday, Oracle, SAP, or similar).
