Hampton County Tax Assessor's Office Job Description:
Tax Clerk I Position Summary The Tax Clerk I is an entry-level administrative position responsible for performing clerical, customer service, and recordkeeping duties related to property tax assessment and collection. The employee assists taxpayers, processes payments, maintains files, and ensures accuracy and compliance with county and state tax procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the public in person, by phone, and by email with questions related to property taxes, billing, and assessments. Receive, process, and complete legal residence, agriculture forms ,address forms etc. Prepare and mail tax assessment notices Enter, update, and verify taxpayer information in the county's tax software system. File, scan, and maintain paper and electronic tax records. Assist with the preparation of reports and documents for departmental records. • Perform related clerical tasks and provide general administrative support as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience preferred; government or financerelated experience is a plus. Basic understanding of bookkeeping or accounting principles. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Working Conditions Work performed primarily in an office setting. Frequent contact with the public, requiring professionalism and patience.
