Job Description

We are partnering with a well-established, small CPA firm seeking a Tax Associate to join their team. This client is looking for someone who can ultimately learn to apply tax law, think critically, and contribute to client advisory work—not just input data into returns. In addition to tax work, this role will also support client bookkeeping and general accounting needs, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of tax and client accounting responsibilities. This is a great opportunity for a tax/accounting professional who wants hands-on exposure, direct client interaction, and the ability to make an impact in a tight-knit firm environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations Assist clients with bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and general accounting support Analyze and apply tax law to client situations—not just prepare returns Conduct tax research and clearly communicate findings and recommendations Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support to help clients minimize liabilities Serve as a point of contact for clients, explaining tax positions, bookkeeping questions, and accounting implications Assist with IRS and state notices, audits, and related correspondence Maintain organized and accurate documentation across all engagements
What We're Looking For:
1+ years of public accounting, tax, or bookkeeping/accounting experience Strong understanding of federal and state tax law and how it applies in practice Experience preparing returns for both individuals and business entities Experience with bookkeeping and client accounting work preferred Ability to identify issues, not just process information CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is a plus, but not required Candidates with accounting degrees who are interested in pursuing their CPA or EA are encouraged to apply Experience with tax and accounting software such as QuickBooks, UltraTax, SurePrep, SafeSend, or similar Key Traits for

Analytical thinker with the ability to interpret tax regulations and apply them to real scenarios Detail-oriented, but also able to see the bigger picture for clients Strong communication skills—comfortable discussing tax and accounting matters with clients Self-sufficient and able to work with minimal oversight Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
