Description We are looking for a detail-oriented tax specialist to join our public accounting team. This role combines tax compliance, research, and client support for individuals and closely held entities, while also contributing to financial planning services for high-net-worth clients. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a client-facing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and examine federal and state tax filings for individuals, trusts, gifts, and pass-through entities, including related estimates and forward-looking projections.
- Evaluate supporting schedules, calculations, and return data to identify inconsistencies and address issues before filing deadlines.
- Investigate complex tax matters, interpret applicable guidance, and present practical recommendations to colleagues and clients.
- Communicate with tax agencies on client matters, including notices, information requests, and audit-related support.
- Track legislative and regulatory developments affecting high-net-worth taxpayers and share relevant implications with advisors and clients.
- Compile and analyze client financial information to help develop personalized planning strategies aligned with their goals and circumstances.
- Assist with planning engagements involving estate and gift considerations, wealth transfer strategies, Roth conversions, required minimum distributions, and charitable giving approaches.
- Maintain timely communication with clients and internal team members regarding engagement progress, outstanding items, and important updates.
- Oversee multiple assignments concurrently, review work completed by early-career staff, and provide coaching to strengthen accuracy and career growth. Requirements
- Experience preparing tax returns for individuals and business entities within a public accounting environment.
- Knowledge of tax compliance requirements related to trusts, gifts, and pass-through entities.
- Ability to research technical tax issues and apply findings to real client situations.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to review calculations, workpapers, and filings for accuracy.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software, including CCH ProSystem fx or similar platforms.
- Effective communication skills for working with clients, taxing authorities, and internal team members.
- Capacity to manage deadlines, prioritize competing assignments, and maintain high-quality service.
- Familiarity with financial planning concepts affecting high-net-worth individuals is preferred.
