The successful candidate will work alongside the current Tax Collector through her retirement on or around January 1, 2027, to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities. The Tax Collector is the Division Head of the Division of Tax Collections within the Department of Administration and is responsible for the management, billing, reporting, and enforcement of property taxes and other municipal charges in accordance with New Jersey statutes governing the duties and functions of a Certified Tax Collector, while supervising the Division of Tax Collections staff and providing excellent customer service to residents and stakeholders. Cherry Hill Township operates on a fiscal year schedule, therefore, qualified candidates must possess a valid Fiscal-Year Certified Tax Collector License prior to their appointment as Tax Collector and have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Certified Tax Collector, preferably in a larger municipality. Cherry Hill Township offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical/prescription/dental and vision benefits as well as generous paid time off. The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $135,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will serve as a Deputy Tax Collector until the retirement of the current Tax Collector. Essential Functions Preparing and distributing monthly collections reports to the Mayor, Council and other municipal officials Maintaining fiscal-year spreadsheets for taxes, sewer, and municipal held liens Processing and mailing delinquent notices, tax sale notices, and holding the live "Accelerated Tax Sale" Processing allowances and disallowances for senior citizen and veteran deductions Overseeing the preparation of the official tax searches Reconciling bank statements and online payment transactions Preparing resolutions for Township Council consideration Processing adjustments resulting from tax appeals Investigating and processing refunds and transfer credits for overpayments Preparing and filing required documentation for bankruptcies Maintaining property maintenance liens and providing monthly reports to the Chief Financial Officer Maintaining listing of premium bids and performing annual reconciliations with the Chief Financial Officer Processing returned checks and related follow-up actions Attending any meetings required Supervising the Division of Tax Collections staff and providing exceptional customer service to residents and stakeholders. Education/Certification Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience. Current and valid certificate from the State of New Jersey, Department of Community Affairs as a "Certified Tax Collector". Continuing education credits (15) every two years to maintain and renew the certificate as a Certified Tax Collector. Experience Previous work as a certified tax collector, preferably from a large fiscal year community with knowledge of Edmunds tax and utility software. Other Skills/Requirements Experience with Edmunds Tax and Utility software required Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Excellent listening skills with the ability to handle inquiries/complaints tactfully and effectively Exceptional math skills for handling complex calculations related to taxes and payments Effective communication skills with professional phone etiquette and customer service orientation Detail oriented with a keen eye for accuracy. Valid NJ Driver's License. New Jersey residency required pursuant to NJSA 54:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).
