The Tax Advocate helps Taxpayers navigate through complex to unresolved tax problems. They act as liaison between the Taxpayer and the Department. This position will ensure taxpayer rights are protected, identifies systemic issues and provides guidance or education to taxpayers on processes, laws or deadlines. How does it get done?
This position will:
Assists taxpayers with complex or unresolved tax problems. Acts as a liaison between the taxpayer and the tax agency. Ensures taxpayer rights are protected. Provides guidance and education to taxpayers. Identifies systemic issues. Who are the customers? The citizens of New Mexico and the Taxation and Revenue Department. Ideal Candidate The citizens of New Mexico and the Taxation and Revenue Department. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
