Position Overview
Goshen Central School District is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to serve as a Seasonal School Tax Collector during the annual school tax collection period. This temporary position is responsible for receiving, processing, recording, and reconciling school tax payments while providing courteous service to taxpayers and maintaining accurate financial records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receive and process school tax payments by mail, in person, and through approved payment systems.
Issue receipts and maintain accurate payment records.
Verify taxpayer information and resolve routine inquiries regarding tax bills and payments.
Prepare daily deposits and reconcile collections.
Maintain confidential financial and taxpayer information.
Generate reports and assist with recordkeeping requirements.
Coordinate with district business office personnel and local municipalities as needed.
Ensure compliance with applicable New York State laws, district policies, and tax collection procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting, business administration, or related field preferred.
Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounting, banking, tax collection, municipal finance, or customer service preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
Ability to handle financial transactions and maintain confidential records.
Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines during a high-volume collection period.
Schedule
Seasonal Position:
August 15, 2026 - November 10, 2026
Schedule may vary based on operational needs
Occasional extended hours during peak tax collection periods
Compensation
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
No benefits associated with this temporary seasonal position
