Job Description
Overview The Senior Auditor position at the Vermont State Auditor's Office is designed for a dedicated professional focused on enhancing government accountability through performance auditing. This role involves examining various aspects of state government operations, including health care, human services, transportation, education, and public safety, while utilizing data analysis tools to support findings and recommendations.
Environmental Factors Duties are performed in a standard office setting or in the field. Significant pressure from deadlines is present. Occasional in-state travel may be necessary, and incumbents should have private means of transportation available. Some overtime work may be required. Managing the audit to successful completion may heighten stress levels in order to meet tight deadlines. Some audit situations may assume a somewhat adversarial nature, requiring significant tact and persistence to complete a successful audit. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, public administration, or related field or higher AND three (3) years or more of professional auditing experience applying generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS) or other auditing standards framework. OR Bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more of professional auditing experience applying GAGAS or other auditing standards framework.

The Senior Auditor position requires:
An understanding of complex auditing concepts; An independent, objective, and systematic approach to analyzing evidence and drawing conclusions; Strong organizational and detailed documentation skills; Clear and concise communication abilities; The skill to manage and prioritize multiple tasks; The abilities to work independently and with a team; and A rigorous work ethic. Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's degree and/or with prior experience in performance auditing. Preferred Qualifications Professional Certification:
Specialized audit certification that requires passing an examination and maintaining certification through continuing education (e.g. CPA, Chartered Accountant, CIA, CISA, CFE) is preferred. Preference may be given to applicants with government performance auditing experience. Preference may be given to applicants with a master's degree.
