Job Description
The Opportunity We are seeking a Director of Tax Services to lead, build, and grow our tax department. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to build something exceptional , not simply manage an existing compliance practice. You will inherit an existing book of business and a growing client base. Your responsibility will be to strengthen client relationships, elevate the level of tax strategy provided, and build a scalable tax department capable of serving high-performing business owners nationwide. This role is ideal for a tax professional who has experience in a Big Four or national advisory firm environment and wants to step into a position where they can lead, innovate, and build. Key Responsibilities Department Leadership & Growth Build, lead, and scale the Tax Services department in alignment with firm growth goals.
Responsibilities include:
Designing and implementing scalable tax workflows and systems Establishing clear service standards and response expectations Recruiting, training, and developing high-performing tax professionals Creating accountability around deadlines, communication, and deliverables Building a culture of professionalism, ownership, and responsiveness This role requires someone who takes ownership of outcomes and holds the department to high standards. Strategic Tax Planning Serve as the senior tax strategist for the firm's clients.Responsibilities include:
Leading proactive tax planning for business owners Implementing advanced tax strategies where appropriate Designing multi-entity tax structures Advising on entity optimization and restructuring Identifying opportunities to reduce tax burden while maintaining compliance Collaborating with consulting and advisory teams to provide integrated solutions Clients expect strategic thinking and proactive planning, not reactive compliance work. Client Leadership Serve as a trusted advisor to high-performing business owners.Responsibilities include:
Leading quarterly and annual tax planning discussions Communicating complex tax strategies in clear, actionable language Ensuring clients receive timely responses and proactive communication Elevating the overall client experience Responsiveness, professionalism, and follow-through are critical expectations for this role. Execution & Operational Excellence Ensure the tax department operates efficiently and consistently.Responsibilities include:
Managing tax season workflow and deadlines Implementing quality control processes Ensuring all filings and deliverables are completed accurately and on time Identifying operational improvements that increase efficiency and scalability The Director will personally step in where needed to maintain standards while building systems that allow the department to scale. Department Growth & Business Development The Director of Tax Services will play a key role in expanding the department.Responsibilities include:
Identifying additional planning opportunities within the client base Supporting business development conversations when appropriate Collaborating with leadership on department strategy and growth Helping position Tower Financial Group as a leader in tax advisory for healthcare entrepreneurs This role requires someone comfortable engaging with clients and contributing to growth initiatives. Who This Role Is For This role is for someone who: Has led or helped build a tax department or practice group Thinks like a business builder, not just a technician Enjoys solving complex problems for business owners Holds themselves and their team to high professional standards Moves quickly and takes ownership of outcomes Communicates clearly and proactively with clients Wants to build a nationally recognized tax advisory department This is not a role for someone who prefers to work quietly in the background, preparing returns without client leadership responsibilities. Qualifications CPA required 10+ years of tax experience preferred Big Four or large national firm experience strongly preferred Proven experience leading teams and managing complex tax engagements Deep understanding of tax planning, compliance, and strategy Strong communicator with the ability to lead clients and internal teams Experience in professional services or advisory environments Medical or dental industry experience is not required. Strategic thinking and leadership are.
