Job Description:
About the Role The Senior Tax Manager will lead our tax department, overseeing a small but dedicated team while personally handling complex tax return preparation and client advisory work. This hands-on leadership position requires both strong technical tax expertise and exceptional client relationship skills. You will serve as a trusted advisor to business owners, proactively guiding them on financial and tax-related decisions throughout the year.
Responsibilities Team Leadership & Management:
Directly manage, mentor, and develop a tax team, including reviewing work, providing technical guidance, and fostering professional growth.
Tax Return Preparation & Review:
Prepare and review complex annual tax returns for small businesses, LLCs, partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and individuals.
Tax Planning & Advisory:
Deliver proactive, year-round tax planning strategies to minimize client tax liabilities and support business growth objectives.
Client Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients. Act as their primary point of contact for all tax and financial matters.
Proactive Client Engagement:
Regularly communicate with clients about upcoming tax deadlines, potential tax-saving opportunities, changes in tax law, and other financial decisions that impact their businesses.
Compliance & Research:
Ensure all work meets the highest standards of accuracy and compliance with current federal, state, and local tax regulations. Conduct tax research as needed.
Firm Growth Support:
Contribute to practice development, process improvement, and the overall growth of the firm.
Qualifications Experience:
8-10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a similar financial services environment.
Technical Expertise:
Strong proficiency in preparing and reviewing returns for small businesses, LLCs, partnerships, S Corps, and C Corps. Experience with multi-state taxation is a plus.
Education & Credentials:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA license strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Leadership:
Demonstrated experience managing and developing a tax team.
Soft Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to build trust and long-term client relationships. Proactive, consultative approach to client service.
Personal Attributes:
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, growing firm environment. Must be a team player who enjoys both hands-on work and strategic leadership. Required Skills Strong technical tax expertise and exceptional client relationship skills. Preferred Skills Experience with multi-state taxation is a plus.
