Job Description
Tax DirectorPosition Overview The Tax Director will lead and manage the tax function, ensuring timely and accurate tax compliance and strategic tax planning across multiple client and entity types. This role is responsible for developing tax strategies, overseeing complex engagements, managing tax risk, and mentoring senior staff to deliver high-quality service and achieve organizational objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee all federal, state, and local tax compliance and reporting for corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and individual clients.
Develop and implement tax planning strategies that minimize tax liabilities and support business objectives.
Manage complex tax engagements, including M&A, restructurings, and cross-border transactions.
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff; provide guidance to Senior Managers and Senior Tax professionals.
Coordinate and manage tax audits, controversy matters, and communications with tax authorities.
Review and approve tax returns, workpapers, and technical positions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to evaluate tax implications of business decisions.
Implement process improvements, controls, and technology solutions to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate impact and action plans to leadership and clients.
Prepare and present tax analyses and updates to executive leadership, boards, and clients.
QualificationsProven experience in senior tax leadership roles, including Tax Senior Manager and Tax Director (or equivalent).Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Taxation or MBA preferred.
Minimum 8-12 years of progressive tax experience with demonstrated leadership and client management skills.
Strong technical knowledge of tax compliance and planning for multiple entity types and transactions.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; capable of presenting complex tax issues to non-tax stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex engagements, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with tax research tools and tax preparation software; experience implementing tax technology is a plus.
