Job Description

Tax SupervisorPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Tax Supervisor to lead the preparation, review, and delivery of tax compliance and consulting services for a diverse portfolio of individual, partnership, S-corporation, C-corporation, and fiduciary clients. The Tax Supervisor will manage daily workflow, mentor and develop staff, ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance, and work closely with senior leadership to identify planning opportunities and process improvements.

Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, C-corporations, and trusts/estates to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing.

Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as primary point of contact for tax planning, engagement execution, and client communications.

Coach, mentor, and provide performance feedback to tax staff; assign work, set priorities, and manage deadlines to meet engagement deliverables.

Conduct technical research on complex tax issues, interpret tax law and regulations, and provide guidance to staff and clients on positions and planning strategies.

Coordinate and perform tax projections, estimated tax calculations, and year-end planning for clients to minimize tax liabilities and identify opportunities.

Oversee and improve internal processes, templates, and checklists to increase efficiency, quality control, and consistency across engagements.

Assist Tax Managers and Partners with engagement budgeting, staffing forecasts, and review of fee proposals and billing.

Liaise with state and federal agencies on behalf of clients for notices, audits, and examinations, escalating issues to management as needed.

Ensure adherence to professional standards and firm policies, including quality control, documentation, and confidentiality.

Participate in business development activities, including client meetings, proposals, and presentation of tax planning ideas.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree in Tax or CPA-related coursework preferred.

Active CPA license preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) credential considered a strong plus.5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, including hands-on preparation and review of individual, partnership, corporate, and fiduciary returns.

Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and manage tax staff.

Strong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state tax compliance, accounting methods, and tax research tools.

Proficiency with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSystem fx or similar), tax research databases, and advanced Excel skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Experience working as a generalist who can handle a variety of client types and industries; prior Tax Manager or Tax Supervisor experience preferred.

Commitment to professional development and staying current with tax law changes and best practices.
