A Brief Summary of This Position:
Owns the company's federal income tax function for a publicly traded, multinational organization. Leads federal tax compliance, planning, audit management, and global components of the quarterly and annual tax provision (ASC 740) in partnership with the broader tax leadership team. This role has primary responsibility for the Company's income tax provision (ASC 740), including consolidated reporting, disclosures, and related judgements, and relies on federal and international tax teams for tax planning, compliance, and audit execution activities. Provides guidance to finance and senior leadership to manage risk, support business initiatives, and improve tax outcomes.Essential Functions:
- Serve as the final decision authority for tax provision assumptions, reserves, and judgments reflected in the Company's consolidated financial statements and external disclosures.
- Oversee and own the global tax provision process under ASC 740 (including uncertain tax positions/FIN 48), supporting disclosures, and coordination with external auditors for a multinational organization; execution inputs are provided by federal and international tax teams covering over 40 plus foreign locations for financial reporting purposes.
- Lead preparation, review, and filing of the U.S. federal consolidated income tax return and related workpapers; set positions and documentation standards.
- Develop and execute federal tax planning strategies (e.g., entity/structure, credit utilization, cash tax optimization) in alignment with business objectives; including but not limited to acquiring tax credits.
- Manage IRS examinations and federal controversy matters; act as primary company liaison and coordinate advisors; evaluate risks and settlement strategies.
- Partner with finance, legal, treasury, HR/payroll, and business leaders on transactions, integrations, and other initiatives with federal tax impact.
- Oversee federal tax processes, controls, calendars, and data readiness; drive continuous improvement and technology/process efficiencies.
- Have 2-5 direct/indirect reports, and develop federal tax talent (internal team and external providers); set goals, delegate work, review deliverables, and provide coaching.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and communicate impacts to leadership; recommend actions as needed.
- Primary oversight into financial tax reporting software and implementation.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- 9+ years of progressive corporate tax experience leading federal corporate income tax matters.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal corporate income tax and ASC 740, including uncertain tax positions (FIN 48).
- Experience leading IRS audits/controversy and managing external advisors.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop tax professionals and deliver results through others.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to partner across functions and with senior leadership.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- CPA, JD, LLM, or equivalent professional credentials.
- Advanced degrees (e.g., MST, MBA, or related).
- Experience in a publicly traded and/or multinational corporate environment.
- Experience with federal tax planning for transactions, integrations, and business initiatives.
- 10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience (public accounting and/or multinational corporate environment preferred).
