Job Description:
The Mather Group (TMG) is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Manager to join our growing team. We are looking for a professional who combines strong technical expertise in tax compliance and strategic planning with proven leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be adept at reviewing and finalizing complex individual, fiduciary, gift, and business tax returns, while also guiding long-term tax strategies that support client wealth and estate planning. This role requires a proactive communicator who can build trusted client relationships, mentor and oversee team members, and champion process improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery. Role Responsibilities International Tax Experience Conversant in foreign matters such as expatriates (working or retired), foreign tax credits, foreign assets and accounts, and foreign entities Extensive experience reading, interpreting, and advising clients on provisions within income tax treaties related to individual income tax matters Knowledgeable in risk and exposure of foreign matters not accurately reported Able to perform complex tax compliances such as foreign tax credits, foreign assets and accounts, K1s with foreign items, footnotes and schedules Able to identify when foreign tax matters are or become of import, and following scope them out when to address vs refer to outside expert Comprehensive Tax Compliance and Consulting Review, finalize, and sign individual, gift, and fiduciary tax returns and work papers. Review and finalize annual tax projections, calculations of estimated tax payments, and the implementation of recommended tax strategies. Review and finalize responses to IRS and state agency audits, inquiries, and tax notices; communicate directly with IRS and state agencies as needed. Keep current on federal and state tax rules and regulations. Ensure adherence to Tax Team processes and procedures that maintain quality control of client deliverables. Retirement Strategy Planning Review, finalize, and present long-term tax and cash flow projections, including identification of tax-reduction strategies for clients and prospective clients. Client Relationship Management Provide timely, high-quality client service that consistently meets or exceeds expectations of clients, your Client Service Team, and the Tax Team. Interact directly with clients to address questions, resolve concerns, and obtain necessary information for tax compliance and strategic planning. Review and finalize tax research projects and develop educational materials for clients, the Tax Team, and broader TMG audiences. Report updates, concerns, and client developments to senior members of your Client Service Team. Practice Development Train, oversee, and mentor members of your Client Service Team. Maintain a high level of organization with client data and files, tracking financial and tax-related transactions. Identify and develop technological and process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery. Assist with various administrative responsibilities that support Tax Team operations. Participate in departmental projects and serve on committees, as requested. Required Experience Bachelor's degree CPA, JD, or EA required Prior experience managing a team of associates Previous experience in the financial services industry a plus Strong track record of achievement and meeting/exceeding ambitious targets Excellent verbal and written communication skills A motivated, self-starter looking for a place to grow your career
