We are seeking a Manager - Tax & Audit or a Senior Accountant to add to the team at our Mason City Office. This position is responsible for managing complex tax engagements, serving as accountant-in-charge on financial statement engagements, and mentoring staff to support their professional growth. Managers are trusted client advisors and contribute to firm-wide training and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Accountant - Tax & Audit plays a key role in delivering high-quality tax and assurance services to our clients. This position is responsible for preparing business and complex income tax returns, serving as accountant-in-charge on select financial statement engagements, and supporting staff development through training. Senior Accountants work closely with managers and partners while building strong client relationships.
Job Duties:
Prepare and review complex federal and multi-state income tax returns, including Forms 1120, 1120S, 1065, and 1040 Serve as the accountant-in-charge on financial statement engagements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion Plan and oversee financial statement engagements Perform quality reviews of tax returns prepared by staff at all levels Identify accounting, tax, and planning opportunities and communicate recommendations to partners and clients Act as a primary client contact, fostering strong relationships and ensuring efficient, accurate information flow Train, supervise, and mentor staff; provide ongoing feedback and support professional development Develop and contribute to firm-wide training resources and best practices Stay current on changes in tax law, regulations, and professional standards Complete and support required continuing professional education (CPE) and professional development initiatives Serve as a technical and professional resource for staff and senior accountants Balance multiple engagements while maintaining quality standards Requirements Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) required Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field Experience with Iowa income tax law Experience preparing and reviewing complex and multi-state income tax returns Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients and staff Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with organization and efficiency Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Positive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to quality and client service Valid Driver's license Preferred Qualifications Proficiency with UltraTax, GoFileRoom, AdvanceFlow, Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Background in general ledger accounting or financial statement preparation
