Job Description

Tax Director Ameer N. Khan, CPA, A Professional Corporation San Francisco Bay Area We are a growing, high-touch CPA firm focused on sophisticated tax preparation, proactive tax planning, and advisory services for high net worth individuals and closely held businesses. Our clients are primarily Bay Area based, including tech executives, founders, and real estate investors with complex financial profiles. We are seeking an experienced Tax Director who can step in immediately, lead our tax function, and elevate the firm to the next level. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys solving complex tax issues, and is comfortable both preparing returns and advising clients at a strategic level. About the Role The Tax Director will oversee all tax matters within the firm while directly managing a team of 4, including a Tax Manager, Tax Accountant, and administrative support. This role is both strategic and execution focused. You will be expected to lead, review, and also prepare complex returns. We are looking for someone who brings deep technical expertise, strong client communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast growing firm. Client Profile Our clients typically include: High net worth individuals, often with AGI exceeding $1M Tech executives with significant equity based compensation, including ISOs and RSUs Real estate investors with rental portfolios, 1031 exchanges, and cost segregation studies S corporations and closely held businesses Clients with multi state and international tax exposure Trust/Estate tax returns (complex and simple) Multi-state tax returns Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee all tax compliance and tax planning activities Review and prepare complex individual and business tax returns Develop and implement advanced tax planning strategies Manage and mentor a team of tax professionals Serve as the primary technical resource for complex tax matters Communicate directly with high net worth clients and provide advisory support Respond to IRS and state notices and represent clients as needed Ensure high quality, timely delivery of all tax work Technical Expertise Required Candidates must have strong, hands-on experience with: High net worth individual taxation Equity compensation, including ISOs and RSUs Multi state taxation, nexus, and income allocation S corporations and pass through entities 1031 exchanges and real estate transactions Cost segregation and accelerated depreciation Multi state K 1 reporting Foreign reporting, including Forms 8621, 8858, FBAR, and 8938 Form 3115 and accounting method changes GAAP and tax accounting, including cash, accrual, and percentage of completion Crypto transactions and capital gain reporting Complex life events such as divorce, casualty losses, and entity structuring Qualifications CPA license required 8+ years of tax experience at a CPA firm, preferably in a small to mid sized firm environment Proven experience working with high net worth clients Strong technical research skills Ability to independently manage complex engagements Excellent written communication skills, especially via email Leadership experience and a desire to mentor and grow a team Nice to Have Experience with business valuation or transaction advisory Exposure to due diligence for acquisitions or business sales Compensation and Benefits We are looking for the right long term fit and are open to structuring compensation accordingly.
