Job Description

Senior Tax Manager Some clients only call their accountant once a year. Others ring before buying a business, gifting $10 million to their children, selling a property portfolio, or making a decision that could save or cost them a significant amount in tax. Those are the clients this team looks after. Which means they're not looking for someone who's brilliant at ticking boxes. They're looking for someone whose name clients ask for. The interesting thing about private client tax is that the better you become, the less your job is actually about tax. It's about judgement. Knowing when to challenge an idea. Knowing when to pick up the phone. Knowing how to explain something complicated without making someone feel like they should already know the answer. If that's the part of the job you enjoy, keep reading. This private client team advises high net worth individuals, family groups, trusts, gifts, estates and closely held businesses. The Partners have built an exceptional client base over many years, but they're reaching the point where there simply aren't enough senior people to support the level of planning and advice their clients expect. That's where you come in. You'll inherit meaningful client relationships, work alongside experienced leaders who remain heavily involved in advisory work, and have the freedom to become a trusted adviser rather than just another reviewer. What you'll be doing: Leading tax planning for high net worth individuals and family groups Reviewing complex individual, trust, gift and partnership returns Building long term relationships with clients throughout the year Working alongside Partners on sophisticated planning projects Coaching Managers, Seniors and Associates as the team continues to grow Why this role is different: The conversations are more interesting than the compliance. Clients expect advice, not just completed returns. The firm has grown because of the relationships they've built, not because they've chased outside investment or private equity backing. That means decisions are still made with the long term in mind. Hybrid and remote working is already well established across the senior team. There is a genuine path towards Director and Partner for someone who wants it. CPA required. A JD with significant private client tax experience would also be considered. If you've found yourself spending more time managing internal processes than helping clients solve problems, this might be the sort of move that reminds you why you enjoyed public accounting in the first place. If you are just browsing the job boards and have not dusted off that resume yet, that is not a problem; you can give me a call first. You will find my number on LinkedIn. Search Lucy Weibel at Distinct North America. If you prefer, you can drop me a connection or message on LinkedIn and we can pick up on there. If you have reviewed this advert and you are unsure whether to apply because you do not have all the required experience, we still encourage you to hit that apply button. We support the CPA firms we partner with in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, so even if your experience does not align perfectly, please do still apply. If this position is not quite right, it is highly likely we will have other public accounting positions that could be a good fit for you.
