For some people it's the distance to Senior Manager that suddenly feels longer than it should. For others, it's more subtle: the culture is fine, the work is fine, but the direction of travel just doesn't quite match where they want to end up. This firm sits slightly differently in that regard. The Partner is genuinely forward-thinking in a practical, operational way, not the usual "we're modernising" narrative you see everywhere else. That shows up in how the firm actually runs: using AI where it genuinely improves output, refining systems rather than layering on process for the sake of it, and deliberately shifting the team towards more advisory-led work so development doesn't stall in pure compliance. As a Tax Manager, the role is designed to be active in progression, not passive. You're not waiting to be told you're ready for the next step, you're working closely with the Partner to shape how you get there, whether that's through improving delivery, taking on more responsibility, or stepping into more complex client work over time. Day to day, it's a balance of leadership and technical involvement. You'll be managing and guiding a team, while still staying close enough to the work to matter, reviewing returns, supporting clients directly, and getting involved in planning and advisory work rather than moving into a purely oversight-based position. Busy season is kept controlled, typically around 45-50 hours, with flexibility built into how that time is managed. And importantly, there's a fair approach to workload: if you go over 45 hours in a given week during peak periods, that time is returned as PTO rather than absorbed into expectation. On top of that, you've got a standard but solid benefits package including healthcare, vacation and sick time, and performance-based bonuses. A few key points that define the role: Tax Manager position with clear, supported progression into senior leadership Direct involvement from the Partner in development and progression decisions Shift towards advisory-led work, not just compliance oversight Hands-on leadership: managing a team while staying close to client work Use of AI and process improvement as part of day-to-day delivery, not just strategy Controlled busy season (typically 45-50 hours) Overtime above 45 hours returned as PTO Healthcare, vacation, sick time, and performance-based bonus structure The difference here isn't just the work, it's the level of intent behind how people are developed and how the firm expects to evolve. If you're looking for a role where progression is visible, influence is real, and leadership is actually engaged in how you grow, it's worth a conversation. Resume not ready? Unsure whether a move is right, right now? That's completely normal. Career decisions take time. Call Laura on 512-647-2214. She'll share insight recruiters rarely do, what the role really involves, how the firm operates behind the scenes, and whether it genuinely supports your long-term ambitions. No pressure. Just clarity before you decide.
