Job Description

There's a few things I notice being an English person recruiting for CPA firms in New York. People ask me if my accent is Australian, English or even American. Americans don't use words like "brilliant", "fantastic" or "lovely" as often as we do. Now "awesome" is unfortunately a part of my daily vocabulary. You guys also say the English are very direct. But I'd beg to differ. There is a client we work with on Long Island who is about as direct as they come. But I quite like it. It gets to the point and we don't have any pointless fluff conversations. Today he said to me, "look Georgina, it's very simple how I run things at my firm. If my staff are happy than they're more productive" You leave at normal business hours. The partners want you out of the office by 5pm. Go spend time with your family, do things you want to do after work. Business is booming so you will gain tax and accounting experience exposure that you wouldn't normally get with a smaller firm. Most of the staff don't leave too. You're given a flexible hour schedule where you can change the hours you start or finish earlier/later so it works to your lifestyle, as long as you do your hours required. You get good PTO and vacation time, there's no formal sick day policies either. You'll be off all thanksgiving week and still be paid. We're helping them find a high level tax candidate who can handle the complex tax preparation and review's given to them. Ideally someone who is able to do tax and accounting too. Lacerte is a bonus but not essential. They're also full time in office in Bellmore. Here's the thing about job applications
  • this is where most people trip up.
They treat them like some sacred checklist where missing one box means instant rejection from the HR gods. Truth is, if this role sparks your interest, just hit apply. The button isn't a lifelong commitmentm it's the start of a conversation. Prefer the old-fashioned human touch? Great. Give me a call at 646-540-9666. Sometimes Indeed plays hide-and-seek with my number, but you can always track me down on LinkedIn
  • I'm Georgina Ross at Distinct North America . I'm usually at my desk from 6am EST, so I'm easy to catch before your day kicks off. After 5pm works too, though I might be running on caffeine fumes by then. Worried you're only 87% qualified? Even better. The CPA firms we work with aren't hunting for cookie-cutter clones
  • they want real, interesting people who bring something different to the table.
Don't overthink it. Worst case? You'll have a good chat about your career. Best case? Things could get very exciting.
