This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented sales and use tax specialist who can step into a high-volume environment and provide immediate support across audit activity, project initiatives, and indirect tax matters. The position offers the chance to contribute to meaningful tax work across retail and construction-related operations while partnering closely with internal stakeholders in a hybrid setting.
Responsibilities:
Lead sales and use tax audit support by organizing documentation, responding to audit inquiries, and helping drive matters to resolution.
Manage a broad range of indirect tax activities tied to business operations, with attention to complex sales and use tax considerations.
Contribute to ongoing tax-related projects that support retail, construction, and other operational initiatives across the organization.
Provide hands-on support for Vertex-related work, including expansion of sales tax processes beyond e-commerce into store environments.
Review tax credit and incentive opportunities that have been awarded and assist with tracking, analysis, and application of related requirements.
Assess nuanced sales and use tax issues, identify potential risks, and recommend practical approaches for compliance and reporting.
Support work associated with new market tax credits and other incentive-driven projects connected to store development or remodeling efforts.
Partner with internal teams to deliver timely tax guidance, maintain compliance, and help meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Requirements
Strong background in sales and use tax, including practical experience managing indirect tax matters in a complex business setting.
Demonstrated success supporting or leading tax audits, with the ability to handle requests, documentation, and issue resolution effectively.
Experience working with Vertex Sales & Use Tax and applying the platform within day-to-day tax operations or project environments.
Knowledge of monthly sales tax processes, compliance obligations, and reporting requirements.
Ability to work independently in a manager-level individual contributor role without direct staff oversight responsibilities.
Comfortable balancing audit support with project-based tax work across multiple priorities.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to interpret tax rules and apply them to business scenarios.
Availability to work in a hybrid schedule with two in-office days per week, including required team presence every other Wednesday.
